AMDIS conference 2015

AMDIS conference 2015

Cantate Commuications has recently returned from  exhibiting (under John Good Limited) at AMDIS (the Association of Marketing and Development in Independent Schools). Three company representatives made the trip up to the Belfry Hotel, just outside Birmingham, for the full two day conference. Most attendees were part of the marketing or development teams at the various schools, with about 180 people attending in total. Our role at this year's conference was to showcase our design, printed, digital and advertising offering, and promote our brand name. This year, our second ever attending the conference, we found to be wholly contructive, and we were delighted to meet all the ...

Welcome to City of London Festival

Welcome to City of London Festival

After an initial meeting with the marketing team at the City of London Festival (CoLF), Cantate Communications was invited to pitch to them with our hope to become their new design agency; the brief involved taking on the new Bowler Hat theatre, a 210 capacity venue at the heart of the City. Our creative team put together a pitch, including some stunning illustrations, which was enough to convince their marketing team that it was time to change from their existing designers, of whom they had been clients for 14 years. Because of this, as well as the potential print, digital and advertising services that we can also offer, we are looking forward to a long and fruitful relations...

American Psycho A Musical Thriller

American Psycho A Musical Thriller

Building on our long experience in the design and production of printed theatre programmes and other high-end publications for the Arts, we are delighted to announce our very first Digital Interactive Publication of American Psycho – A New Musical Thriller. This edition is for iPad’s only and can be downloaded here. There are already many magazine-format publications available to Tablets and Smartphones, but very few appear as rich in content, functionality or dynamic in appearance as they could be and most are not challenging the technology on which they are displayed, or the intended audience.  Particularly, in the case of Arts-related publications, our view is that digita...

After Hours… 14 May, 2013

After Hours… 14 May, 2013

A couple of days ago we popped along to the opening night of a new exhibition called After Hours, an exhibition of personal work by graphic designers hosted at the Jerwood Visual Arts studio, and curated by Nick Eagleton.       The show put together the extracurricular work of 29 contributors from every walk of the design world, with the purpose of peering into the creative process when set free from the shackles of a brief or client. The result is both eclectic and surprising; everything from letterpress to sculpture…   The bold typography of Anthony Burrill's posters formed the lynchpin of the exhibition, with a sideways look at the practice of design both in the for...

Case study: Sadler's / Barbican Pina Bausch: World Cities.

Well, how's 2013 going for you? Has the cold of January made you wistful for the heady heights of our 2012 Olympic Summer? Looking back, it was a fantastic time, and being in the heart of central London, we were immensely proud to be part of the London 2012 Festival.     One of the many publications we designed, printed and produced for participating partners of the London 2012 Festival was our programme for the first ever Sadler's Wells and Barbican co-production: Tanztheater Wuppertal Pina Bausch – World Cities 2012. Bringing the company of one of the most influential and best-loved choreographers to London, World Cities was the last project that Pina Bausch planned befor...

The Ritz Calendar 2013

The Ritz Calendar 2013

Working in collaboration with Amanda Berry (fourberrys.co.uk), Cantate Communications prepared various paper variants and formats that would work well for the 2013 Ritz Calendar. These had to take colour well without compromising the warm, tactile benefits of using Omnia Natural – the final stock chosen. Combined with the metallic gold ink and a complementary gold foil used on the front leaf, the end result is stunning. Both designer Amanda Berry and the customer where extremely pleased with the attention to detail along the path to fruition.     This calendar celebrates some of the many unique details, traditions and very individual aspects which contribute to The Ritz bei...

Case study: Pioneering print for Virgin Galactic

We are proud of the relationships we cultivate with our clients, and none more-so than with Virgin Galactic. We worked closely with Virgin Galactic to create a beautifully-crafted piece of promotional print. We produced their 5-colour (process + metalic silver), ultra-gloss, double gate-fold brochure to exacting standards, and they even came down to pass it on press. Complete with holographic foil-blocking presentation box, this piece really needs to be held to be appreciated, but hopefully these images will give you a taste.
